Re: toilet paper by the case..

1 ply vs 2 ply. Decisions, decisions...

Easiest way is to use the blue TP in MREs. Mission accomplished with only one sheet.

1) Grab 1 ply blue MRE TP with off hand.
2) Insert middle finger, strong hand through 1 ply blue MRE TP.
3) Use finger to clean area. :moon:
4) Remove paper

Having used the easiest way for a few field problems, I've invested some prep coin in Cottonette(sp) TP with aloe/vita E. Not as moist/messy as wet naps. Just enough dew to do the job. Is that a pun?

I don't usually keep the phone book. The print is so small I have not been able to read it in years. We got a new phone book the other day and I told my husband to keep it. He asked why. I said it made good toilet tissue in an emergency..

The look on his face was priceless.. His mouth just hung open.. Wait till he sees the cases of toilet paper coming home.. :111:

Maybe you talk to whomever does the ordering there and piggy back an order? Not sure if that would fly, but wouldn't hurt to ask.

The shipping isn't ever free. ;)

Before ordering online, I would go around to local stores and see what they'd want for a whole case of whatever kind you like. Many store managers can cut deals on whole cases of items.

Also consider that the local store's shipping cost is inherently cheaper, because their logistics department assumes that anything shipped to the store is loaded on a truck with 10 or 20 pallets of other stuff.

I would like to do that but the hospital is a very corporate place. We also have some major pilfering going on so I need to keep separate from that even if it were legit..I have seen my coworkers walk out with whole giant rolls of toilet paper, trash bags , printer paper and feminine products..

I do think the industrial giant size one ply sturdy rolls are the way to go for storage though. Those things are packed tight and last forever.
They are even sturdier then the scotts double roll.

I can look up the name of the product when I go to work today. I can find out where it comes form and maybe I could either order and pick up or have a delivery. Its worth a try..

nub... I was thinking about this first thing in the morning.. If we have a lights out SHTF there will be no electricity, no well pump and an outhouse in the back yard.. I can live with that although i would want it decorated cute..

I was thinking it might be prudent to go ahead and download instructions on making an outhouse while they are readily available.

I can't believe anyone throws thick sheaves of paper away. Soaked in water they make great expansion testing material for hollow points. Torn to shreds they make the perfect tinder to light a charcoal chimney. Left alone the make great flower presses and door stops. I wouldn't know because I can't stop shooting or burning them long enough for them to accumulate.

I bought a case of those Kirkland baby wipes from costco last year, when they had a $5.00 off coupon. They do say not to flush, but c'mon, don't flush a baby wipe? Anyway, they are great for road trips. Good to wipe your face and hands, or use for a roadside emergency! And if you happen to have the dreaded diarrhea, they are nice and moist/cool for those "tender" areas!

What did people use before toilet paper was invented?
August 15, 1986

You should thank your lucky stars you live in the twentieth century, bucko. Let me tell you about ... corncobs. You may not believe this, but it was once common practice in rural America to leave a corncob hanging from a string in the outhouse for purposes of personal hygiene. The string, I gather, was to permit the cob to be reused. For those who were punctilious in these matters, or else blessed with an abundance of corncobs, a box of disposable cobs might be provided instead. In coastal regions, the cob might be replaced by a mussel shell.

For those who had access to it, paper from discarded books or newspapers was often preferred to either of the foregoing. The meteoric growth of the Sears Roebuck company, for instance, is thought to be partly attributable to the protean nature of its catalogs, which, historians tells us, might serve a family of regular habits for an entire season. As with the cob, the catalog would be hung in the outhouse on a string and pages torn off as needed. It is said the use of coated stock, which was nonabsorbent, was a source of great consternation to farm families when Sears began printing color pictures in the catalog earlier in this century.

English lords, in attempting to teach their sons to be cultivated gentlemen, often advised purchasing an inexpensive volume of verse for use in the loo. The idea, of course, was that while you were sitting there in a contemplative state you would be able to read a few stanzas, subsequent to which the paper could be put to other ends, so to speak. It has not escaped my notice that my magnum opus, The Straight Dope: A Compendium of Human Knowledge, is also well suited for this purpose. Indeed, in the next edition we are thinking about perforating the pages, for maximum convenience.

Early American culture is stupendously young compared to the history of ass-wiping (and Squirrel specified other cultures).
I'm no anthropologist with a specialty in scat but here are my conjectures; prior to aqua ducting and plumbed water rivers were the preferred location of reprieve offering not only active "flushing" but a good amount of foliage for clearing the anus.
Once aqua ducts were in place the act could be convenienced to public out housing or, if you were affluent, the home. All along history I am certain that the latrine was used by all streaks of society and to this day remains the most simple yet safe solution to waste disposal.
Even in "modern" historical societies that utilized aqua ducting sewage was not regarded as the vile evilness that it is rightfully considered today; the gutters in Rome ran with raw sewage.
It was not until the advent of pressurized, running water that utilities such as the bidet could be implemented. The American invention by John Crapper still required an externally supplied gravity fed reservoir to perform the flush which remains true to this day although we take the feed line for granted as we don't have to haul a bucket of water up from the crick to get rid of a sour shit.
I've never used a bidet and remain reproachfully suspicious of them although the concept is appealing. My fragile, American mind would want some form of TP to wipe the wetness away once the bidet had done the dirty work.

As for other cultures, well, there is a reason the left hand is considered an insult to use for salutation or eating (sucks for lefties?).

Anyone know how many BTU can be reclaimed from a single burning bill? I would expect cloth money to spend better as fuel than ass-wipe. It's nice to know I'll get the same level of ass-wipe or BTU from a 1 dollar bill as I would a 100 dollar bill, guess I should start cashing into all ones now while the getting is good.

Anyone keep a roll of TP in a coffee can (metal) in thier car with a bottle of rubbing alcohol? Works great for survival fire if youre stuck out someplace on a cold night. Just dump the alcohol in the can with the TP, lite the TP with a match and the TP roll acts as a wick and its an oderless hot flame. Like a big sterno fuel can.

Hard to find a coffee can anymore, most now are made of plastic, don't expect that would work so well anymore for a SHTF. Even bidness is out to get us, no more tp in coffee cans for warmth or light. what is the world coming to??:sarc:

As a young piper, I was asked by a funeral
director to play at a grave-side service for a homeless man,
with no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a
cemetery way back in the country, and this man would be the
first to be laid to rest there. As I was not familiar with
the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man
did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late.
I saw the backhoe and the crew, who were eating lunch, but
the hearse was nowhere in sight.
I apologized to the workers for my tardiness,
and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the
vault lid already in place. I assured the workers I would
not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to
do. The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I
played out my heart and soul.
As I played the workers began to weep. I
played, and I played, like I'd never played before:
From
My Home & The Lord is my Shepherd to Flowers of the
Forest. I closed the lengthy session with Amazing Grace and
walked to my car.
As I was opening the door and taking off my
coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another,
'Lard Jeezuz b'y, I never seen nothin' like that
before and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty
years.'
